iPhone 3G Weekend Special
We interrupt our regular programming to pay homage to the most popular mobile phone ever released. We’re referring of course to Apple’s phenomenal mobile phone - the iPhone 3G. The second generation iPhone has been met by tremendous amount of hype over the past couple of months. All the rumors we’ve heard about and have been circulating have been fulfilled and put to an end, now that thousands of iPhone fanboys and fangirls worldwide have their beloved mobile toy with them. Some even went to the extent of camping out as early as Monday at the Apple Store in New York, AT&T, Softbank in Japan, Rogers in Canada, in New Zealand and many other countries where the iPhone was simultaneously launched. So, here’s our own piece on the new iPhone 3G.
What do you get?
We’ve all heard and read about the iPhone specs, details and features. We know that it’s most important feature which was not in the original iPhone and which was the most sought after feature is the 3G connectivity. Early buyers and reviewers say that with a good location, the 3G-enabled browsing using the new iPhone is decently fast. Aside from the its 3G feature, the iPhone 3G is also loaded with some other useful features including; GPS mapping, Microsoft Exchange support, new Apps Store , better email management, better and faster internet browsing. The iPhone is three products rolled into one device – a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod and an internet device with full-featured HTML email and desktop-class web browser.
The Package cost.
Another most important factor that was the talk of the town for the past couple of months is the price tag that Apple and its distributors would put on the new iPhone. Fortunately, Apple allowed AT&T’s proposal to make the iPhone as affordable as possible by subsidizing its cost from Apple. And so news broke out that the iPhone will be offered for $199 with the corresponding service contract agreement with AT&T. Later on, AT&T also announced that the iPhone will be made available free of the 2-year service contract agreement, although at a higher price of $599. Other countries are selling the iPhone at varying prices. Rogers of Canada was even put into the limelight when it announced that it will be offering the iPhone at an extremely high price with an unreasonable service agreement. In Hong Kong, the iPhone 3G was being offered for $1 dollar with the corresponding mobile plan. But of course, price will not matter for iPhone fanatics. And price has become pretty irrelevant.
The First Owners.
Those who have been camping out outside of the different Apple Stores worldwide finally got their much desired handset and became part of the iPhone history as the first owners of the iPhone 3G. Engadget Mobile went as far as New Zealand to find out who are the first 10 iPhone 3G owners since their time zone is way ahead of the US release time. The first owners were Jonny Gladwell, Evert Bryuns, Annie Ryan, Luke Soules, John Ballinger, Brian Foose, Steve Simms, Ben Lilley, James MacFarlane and Khai Thay.
iPhone Apps Store.
A few hours after the iPhone 3G was released, a slew of other iPhone related services opened up more particularly the Apple Apps store. And iPhone fanatics were greeted with new applications which were just waiting to be downloaded. Some are being offered as free applications while some are priced although relatively cheap. Almost all possible mobile applications that you can think of started to appear on the iTunes apps store. Even Google has announced its own Google Mobile App for the iPhone. Top social networking sites, MySpace and Facebook also released their own native iPhone applications.
What’s next after this hype?
We expect more hype and buzz until a couple more weeks. Some are just starting to enjoy their newly bought device. Some tech journalists are starting to come up with their reviews of the new iPhone a few hours after they have played around with their iPhones. Tech bloggers and writers are outwitting each other trying to come up with the most fun-filled, engaging and exciting reviews that would solicit more page views, search hits, and back links. There’s no doubt that the iPhone is the most popular mobile device ever released. Apple has done a great job of marketing and advertising their mobile toy. And so now, they are enjoying the fruits of their labor. We can only thank one man for giving us this wonderful device, despite its flaws and limitation. On with the iPhone fever folks!

"The App Store is a grand slam, with a staggering 10 million applications downloaded in just three days," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "Developers have created some extraordinary applications, and the App Store can wirelessly deliver them to every iPhone and iPod touch user instantly."

Why You Don't Need A New iPhone
Confession: It's been easy to warn folks away from buying an iPhone this year. A newer, better phone was clearly on the way. And last month Apple proved the predictions true by introducing a cheaper model loaded with GPS and a zippier wireless connection that will go on sale Friday, July 11.
The coolest thing about the next generation iPhone, however, is its new software. And if you already have the device, you're going to be getting the best parts of the new model for free very soon (or for a small charge to those who own an iPod Touch). Getting stuck with the old iPhone isn't looking as bad as we feared.
Apple introduced the most interesting features of the new phone in March. CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the software of the new iPhone's and opened that software up to outside developers.
Perhaps the most interesting, and least heralded, thing about this new software is how much better it will mesh with the rest of your life. The software is chock full of small details that help you do this, like allowing you to get e-mail and calendar information directly from Microsoft Exchange servers.
If you've got a BlackBerry, this won't make you switch. But if you're using an iPhone now, it means you might actually be able to get your work e-mail through your phone.
So what will make BlackBerry users sit up and take notice? The multitude of applications being readied for the phone by outside developers. The size and scope of Apple's developer program remains a bit of a mystery, but Apple has already shown off demos from online auctioneer eBay, mobile social-networking start-up Loopt, blogging service TypePad, the Associated Press and game developer Pangea Software.
The best part of the developer program is that it promises to keep cranking out new applications for the old iPhone for years to come. Before, developers were limited to working with the Web browser built into the phone. Now Apple will distribute software from third parties to users through its new Apps Store, which will allow users to wirelessly download software on the iPhone or on their computer via iTunes. Apple will take a 30% cut of any sales, but developers will be able to sell their software for whatever they see fit.
Venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers said it will launch a $100 million fund, dubbed the iFund, to invest in developers creating applications for the iPhone.
There will still be some things the new iPhone will be able to do that the old one won't. The lack of a GPS receiver means it won't be able to deliver turn-by-turn directions with the new iPhone's accuracy. And the old phone's relatively poky data connection means applications that rely on a connection to the Internet will crawl along without access to a wi-fi hot spot.
Nevertheless, one of the easiest criticisms one can make of Apple--that it moves to bump off older models with stylish new ones as often as it can--doesn't hold up this time. The old phone looks a lot like the new one. And once you update the software, it will work a lot like the new one as well.

Infibeam Launches Jewellery Store for Raksha Bandhan
Infibeam.com, today announced the grand opening of its new Jewellery Store (http://www.infibeam.com/Jewellery/) -- a single shopping destination committed to offering low prices on a large selection of high-quality rings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets, and earrings. To provide the large breadth of selection, Infibeam.com has teamed with jewelry merchants and designers to offer fine jewellery, fashion jewellery, designer jewellery and accessories.
"We are thrilled to offer Infibeam.com customers an unparalleled jewellery shopping experience by making it easy to find and discover thousands of unique items, including diamond necklaces, gold earrings and silver bracelets among other finest jewellery at lower prices than other retailers -- online or offline," said Vishal Mehta, CEO of Infibeam.com
Traditionally, jewellery product margins are high, in order to cover the costs of holding inventory, renting store space, and providing display cases, a professional sales force and security. Because Infibeam.com does not incur many of these costs, the company is able to significantly reduce the margin on its products. While the average margin in jewellery retailing is approximately 45 to 50 percent, Infibeam.com targets substantially lower margins on jewellery sales.
Each piece of jewellery sold by Infibeam.com is inspected to verify quality attributes and ensure an excellent product. Since Infibeam.com wants their customers to be fully satisfied with their purchases, they have an excellent policy. This way a customer is a winner in either way.
