Samsung sells over 10mn units of Galaxy S

Samsung Electronics Co. said on Monday that it had sold 10 million units of its flagship smartphone, Galaxy S, since its global launch in June last year.


Samsung said it has shipped its Galaxy S smartphones to various countries, including 4 million units to North America, 2.5 million units to Europe.

The world's second largest maker of cellphones by shipments after Nokia sold 2 million Galaxy S devices in the domestic market.

The South Korean company expects to double sales of smartphones this year as it tries to narrow the gap with mobile handset leader Nokia and Apple.

Apple sold 14.1 million iPhones in the quarter ended in September. Its latest model, the iPhone 4, was also introduced in June.

Samsung is using Google Inc.’s Android operating system in Galaxy S, and it is the company’s most successful smartphone device till date.
