Microsoft Windows 7 Phone crosses the 1.5 million mark

Over 1.5 million Microsoft windows 7 phones have been sold in the first six weeks of the release. In an article on the website, Achim Berg, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft's Mobile Communications Business & Marketing Group, said the sales of this much awaited handset is in line with the company`s expectation.

There is stiff competition in the Windows 7 phone market with major players like Samsung Electronics, HTC and LG. The launch of the Microsoft windows 7 phone is in the wake of the strong competition amongst windows phones released by giants like Google, Apple and RIM's Blackberry.

The innovative model from Microsoft is all sent to create a dent in the highly competitive smartphone market. Microsoft windows 7 phone was launched in Europe and the Asia Pacific region on October 21. It was launched in US and Canada on the 8th of November.

There are over 18,000 software developers working on making applications for windows phone 7 handsets. According to information released by Gartner, Microsoft`s share of the global mobile operating system will fall to 4.7 percent from 8.7 percent last year. Microsoft will release several updates on the new phone in the next couple of months.
